About our town
Thorne is a bustling and historic market town and civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Doncaster in South Yorkshire, with a population of approx. 16,000. Surrounded by Hatfield and Thorne Moors, with the Stainforth & Keadby Canal running through the heart of Thorne – it’s very picturesque.
There are excellent links to the M18, M62 and A1 making this area an ideal commuter belt to Doncaster, Leeds, Hull and York with Junction 6 of he M18 being within a few minutes drive of the town centre. Thorne also boasts two train stations with regular routes on the northern railway to Hull, Doncaster, Sheffield and Scunthorpe. Excellent bus routes and free town centre parking make it an ideal place to get from and too.
Major investment being poured into the area, with the Thorne & Moorends Regeneration Group, improvement to town centre buildings as well as extensive commercial operations at Capitol Park
Thorne is a hive of community spirit, with a monthly farmers market, three major supermarket chains, a host of independent shops, fast food chains, tea rooms, hotels and public houses it’s a town that really does have it all!
