As the summer holidays roll around again, those with children about to finish the school term start to wrack our brains for activities to keep them entertained and out of trouble for the duration. With that in mind, we’ve put together a few ideas to help you out, ones that will hopefully stop those dreaded words; “I’m bored!!”
Send the kids off to a day camp!
Day camps can be an amazing experience for any young person to create long-lasting memories, and to also meet new people of a similar age group. Activities at day camps can include anything from archery, zorbing, fencing, swimming, cookery or exciting science lessons – the perfect learning environment even when the kids are out of school! The usual age ranges for day camps can be from 4 years upwards, making it a great outing for the whole family.
Go to the West End
Did you know, kids under the age of 16 can visit the West End for free, when an accompanying adult pays full price for their ticket? Kids Week 2017 offers children the chance to get involved in the world of theatre, with free tickets to a variety of shows, from Paw Patrol Live, Annie, Pinocchio, Matilda, and much, much more! (Please note that one single adult ticket entitles only one free child ticket, additional children can purchase tickets at half price)
Join the Summer Reading Challenge
The Summer Reading Challenge is a fantastic way to keep the kids entertained throughout the summer, and it’s educational too! Free to take part, the reading challenge is available for kids to sign up either online or at their local library. This year, the theme is ‘Animal Agents’ and there is a medal and certificate if you complete the 6 books over the summer. For those over 13, there is also the chance to sign up to help with the Reading Challenge by helping the younger children with their reading.
Create an outdoors splash zone
If you’d rather not venture outside of the home, then what better place to keep the kids entertained, than in the comfort of your own home? Create an outdoor ‘splash’ zone in your garden easily and simply with a paddling pool and one or two sprinklers. Depending on the size of your garden, and if it’s safe to do so, you can also add a slip ‘n’ slide area with some plastic sheeting and some bubble bath!
Local Events
It’s always worth checking online to see what’s happening for kids in your area. There are many different sites that let you search by town or postcode and will bring up all events happening including dates, times and prices. Typical events include anything from family festivals, museum events to three-day gaming events.
