Plan Your Shed
Rather than throwing everything inside and hoping for the best, try organising your shed better. Have a section for garden tools and one for DIY, for example. It makes it a lot easier to find what you are looking for. If there are tools that you use more often than others, make a space for them by the door so you can get quick access.
Keep a Tidy Hose
If you have a permanently tangled hose, then now’s the time to do something about it. You can get a reel that winds the hose and can be stored safely or you can simply fit a hook to the shed wall where you can coil it up and put out of the way.
Long Handle Tools
Rakes, spades and hoes can all look untidy if you just lean them against the wall. A simple solution is to invest in a tool rack that you can clip them into. If you don’t want to spend that amount of money, a few nails here and there can do the job just as well. Laying long handle tools flat against the walls creates a surprising amount of extra space.
Magnetic Strips
For metal objects such as saws, chisels and hammers, there a range of magnetic storage strips that you can fit to the wall. These are simple and easy to install and use and great for keeping a range of tools in a safe, accessible place.
Use All Your Space
A shed isn’t just the floor and the walls. There’s the ceiling as well. Some hooks placed in the joists can give you the ideal spot to store all sorts of gardening and DIY equipment, including space swallowing ladders.

You can never have too much shelving in your shed as they can really help keep things tidy. Again, you should look for places you wouldn’t necessarily use such over the door or windows, all simple locations that increase the amount you can store.
Keep the Small Things Safe
From nuts and bolts to washers and bits of copper pipe, small objects can easily get lost in the shed. Sectioned boxes or small baskets and old jars can all be used to keep everything in one place. That way, when you need to find a certain size screw, you know exactly where to look.
Invest in a Good Toolbox
Finally, nothing keeps all your spanners, drill bits and other equipment in better order than a good, old fashioned tool box. There are plenty of different ones on the market but it’s worth spending a little more to get a quality one that handles all your kit, especially if your shed is on the small size.
