Following on from our blog about mandatory client money protection being introduced for agents, Northwood is pleased, once again, to lend its support to “Propertymark Awareness Week” 2018, which is taking place all this week across social media.
Propertymark is the campaign that encourages consumers – tenants and landlords – to only let through an agent who has recognised client money protection in place.
All registered Propertymark get involved in the Week as well as supplier supporters of the campaign, industry and consumer organisations. The participants in the campaign all use their social media streams to create awareness of the issue of client money protection and encourage consumers to look for the Propertymark kite mark.
This is the seventh year of the campaign, and likely to be the last as mandatory client money protection is coming into force on 1st April 2019.
However, until then, consumers’ money is still at risk!
John Midgley, Chair of the Propertymark Steering Group, says:
“Propertymark’s original aim – to make it mandatory for all agents be part of a client money protection scheme is finally close to becoming reality. Over the past seven years the agents who got behind the Propertymark campaign have been instrumental in getting us to this stage. They should quite rightly be proud they have been the standard bearers for this important protection for tenants and landlords’ money.
“As the requirement doesn’t come in until April 2019, we’ll continue to raise awareness with consumers, reminding them to vote with their feet, and only use an agent who can offer them financial protection now.”

Clearly, Propertymark has had a significant impact on protecting consumers in the private rented sector and even influenced government policy.
