Our very own Laura has been nominated as a finalist for the Inspirational Woman of the Year award, hosted by the brilliant BWC Athena Awards.
The Athena Awards are a celebration of the powerful women entrepreneurs and leaders who are making a significant impact on the business community of Aberdeen. This is an time to come together and celebrate their accomplishments, whilst inspiring all who follow these women’s successes and creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for women in business.
Aberdeen’s powerful women entrepreneurs at Athena Awards
Alongside many other powerful women in Aberdeen, Laura has made the shortlist for the Women of Inspiration award. This recognises the impact she’s made in founding and building up Northwood North East to a letting agent and estate agent of choice in Aberdeen and the surrounding areas. In fact last year, Northwood North East was crowned Scottish Estate Agency of the Year! The company’s charitable commitments has also helped Laura in this award, as she leads the team in their 15×15 efforts, marking their 15th year in business by supporting 15 local charities.
It’s not just Laura’s business acumen that is being judged. As a busy mum of three, she is an outstanding leader and fantastic role model to those around her. She (somehow!) has the time to donate her time and attention to the community she works in, charity projects and continually supporting her team and wider network to fulfil their potential.
Laura – A role model and charitable leader in Aberdeen
Last year, Laura & the team raised £1,000 for UCAN by committing to Wing Walk (no mean feat at the best of times, let alone with Laura’s fear of flying!), and £7,600 for CLAN with its commitment to the Big Hop Trail. To celebrate our 15th anniversary next year, she is spearheading 15 events to give back to the community, including 12 community days and three fundraising events for local charities. Watch this space!
This year, Northwood celebrates its 15th year in business and to mark the milestone, Laura and the team have committed their time and support to at least 15 local charities including Befriend A Child, Maggie’s, SensationALL, Halfpenny Animal Farm & Sanctuary, Denis Law Trust, Cyrenians and Grampian Women’s Aid to name a few. She will also take part in a fire walk in November, raising money for the company’s three charity partners of 2024: Aberdeen Amateur Athletic Club, Forget Me Not and Friends of Anchor. They have already raised £3,000 by walking from Northwood’s newest office in Banchory to Rosemount!
Those who have met her, know of her warm, friendly and positive energy and it’s no surprise she has been shortlisted for this prestigious award. Good luck, Laura!
