Aberdeen: a spotlight

Clean air, crashing waves, rolling hills – and an electric city centre – the North East of Scotland has it all.

Aberdeen city itself is 186.5km with a population of 227.4k, but jump across the border into Aberdeenshire and you’re welcomed to a further 6,000km+ of heritage, culture and one of the most stunning landscapes in the world. With close-knit and welcoming communities in Banchory, Stonehaven, Inverurie, Ellon and beyond, the North East of Scotland is a fantastic place to call home.

If you’re moving to the granite city for work, or for quality of life, you might be looking for recommendations on ‘the best’ areas to stay in. As proud Aberdonians, we may be a little bias when we say, of course, that all areas have their strengths! Laura, Ali, Matt and the team at Northwood are committed to our area and experts in the sales and lettings property industry in Aberdeen city and shire so there’s no one better to ask. We hope this is helpful:

Rosemount & Midstocket:

This is a popular choice for professionals and families alike, with a mix gorgeous Victorian granite homes and modern complexes. Rosemount has a welcoming, vibrant feel with a range of traditional, independently owned shopfronts including Rosemount Market, fishmongers, butchers, cheesemonger, card shops, gift shops and florists – not to mention the old-fashioned sweet shop, and the many (many!) restaurants and cafes. This just so happens to be where our office is too!

Ruthreiston, West End

In Aberdeen’s West End, Ruthreiston has a range of property types in accessible range to the city centre and the many open, green spaces and play parks. A highlight is the Outdoor Sports Centre and Community Centre. Neighbouring Ferryhill also offers delightful family homes and amenities.

Bridge of Don

Bridge of Don has it’s own village feel in a beautiful natural setting, and only 10 minutes’ commute from the city centre. Boasting fantastic schools, amenities and sports facilities, it’s no wonder so many working professionals and growing families are settling here.

Cove Bay

Known by locals just as Cove, is a quaint coastal village south-east of the city. With new development and complexes, the Charleston community in cove is a fantastic area to live. With primary and secondary schools, medical centre and shopping centre, there are excellent public transport links to Aberdeen centre and a short drive to Porthlethen and Stonehaven, further south.

Cults and Milltimber, Bieldside

On the Royal Deeside corridor, these are prestigious postcodes. With excellent schools and wonderful walks, open spaces and greenery, it’s a wonder you’re a mere six miles from the city entre. There’s a welcoming community feel with many groups, activities and cafes to mingle and make friends.
