To celebrate our 15th year in business, we’re supporting at least 15 local charities in the North East.
We kicked off in January with Somebody Cares and last month, spent the day helping the team at Home Start lighten the load with our team of 12.
On 7th March, we’ll close our offices again as we don our overalls and lend our hands to the amazing team at Befriend a Child.
Turn a frown upside down
Befriend a Child was formed in 1975 by two women on the children’s panel who saw a gap in the support children were receiving between hearings. They saw the benefit of offering a child one to one support through a positive adult role model who could spend some time with the child and help take their minds off of the difficulties of their home life.
Through befriending, where volunteers are carefully matched with children aged 4.5 – 16 years old who are facing difficult life circumstances, the charity helps provide kids consistency, 1:1 attention, fun and social opportunities. Befriend a Child also offer family support, intandem mentoring and group activities.
More than a fresh lick of paint
We approached Katie, Head of Fundraising & Marketing, after several staff nominated Befriend a Child as a charity to support as part of our 15×15 efforts. With no set agenda, bar enthusiasm and 12 sets of hands, we have offered a day of our time to help in any way – and we cannot wait to paint the basement, sort through toys and clear up the entrance of the building!
The basement is used as a break-out room for volunteers and befriendees to enjoy. With a fun and interactive playzone where kids can relax, learn and play. It’s a vital area that offers so much more than games. It’s an inviting, warm, safe space to make happy memories and we’re honoured to help maintain and improve it in this small way.
